The Northwest Territories Nominee Program has an Expression of Interest Comprehensive Ranking System for the Employer-Driven Stream application intake. The system is being implemented to assist with inventory control and the strategic selection of applicants.

The Employer-Driven Stream’s Expression of Interest ranking system is not an application but is an online profile created by completing a survey. Successfully completing the Expression of Interest does not guarantee a nomination or the ability to submit a full application to the Northwest Territories Nominee Program. There is no limit to the number of applicants who can submit an Expression of Interest and there is no deadline.

The Expression of Interest survey must be completed by the Nominee Applicant after the Employer registers in the NWT Nominee Program online application portal. Answers from the survey will be associated with points which then determine the applicant’s total score in the Expression of Interest system. Employers of the Nominee Applicants with the highest-ranking scores will be invited to submit a full application to the NWT Nominee Program through draws held throughout the year. The number of draws and the number of applications selected each draw is dependent on the annual nomination allocation.

Through the Expression of Interest submission, points are awarded to applicants for human capital factors, connections to the NWT labour market and adaptability to the NWT.

• Human Capital factors include language, age, work experience and education.
• Connections to the NWT Labour Market factors include level of employment in the NWT, duration of time employed in the NWT, having a trades job offer, having a closed work permit in the NWT and working in a small community in the NWT.
• Adaptability factors include having immediate family in the NWT and having attended completed post-secondary education in the NWT.

The Expression of Interest system allows the NWT Nominee Program to select the best suited applicants to apply to program based on identified priorities that support applicants’ ability to adapt and likelihood of retention.
