Contacting NT Nominee Program Staff
Staff with the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) are here to help you whenever we can! Nominees can contact the NTNP at any time about any issue, such as, but not limited to:
- You have questions or concerns about eligibility and criteria for the NTNP;
- You are an approved nominee, and your current work permit is going to expire, and you need a Work Permit Support Letter;
- There are any changes to your employment relationship with your nominating Employer;
- You are having issues with your nominating Employer;
- You are having issues contacting Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) about your application for permanent residency; and/or
- You have questions about the Memorandum of Understanding.

Employer-Driven & Francophone Streams Specific
Work Permit Support Letters – Employer Driven & Francophone Streams
If your temporary work permit expires before a decision is reached on your Permanent Residency Application, our office can issue you a Work Permit Support Letter. You can use this letter to apply for a new work permit that is employer-specific so you can continue working for the Employer that nominated you.
If you require this letter, please reach out to our office by emailing immigration@gov.nt.ca more than 30 days and up to six (6) months before the expiration of your current work permit.
Memorandum of Understanding for Approved Nominees - Employer Driven & Francophone Streams
The terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed after a worker is nominated must be followed by all parties until the nominee learns the decision of their application for permanent residency.
The NTNP must be notified within 10 business days of any changes to the employment relationship, such as, but not limited to, a reduction of hours below 30 hours per week, resignation, termination, and temporary or permanent lay-off.
Amendments to a Nomination - Employer Driven & Francophone Streams
The NTNP must be notified by email (immigration@gov.nt.ca) immediately if any changes need to be made on a nomination certificate. The NTNP may request updated documents that support the changes, and some changes may require consultation prior to approval. These changes may include:
- Change of address;
- Change of name;
- Change of marital status;
- Adding a dependent;
- Changing occupations (must consult with NTNP first); and/or
- Changing Employer (must consult with NTNP first).
Business Stream Specific
Employment Standards Act
As employers in the Northwest Territories, applicants under the NTNP Business Stream are subject to the Employment Standards Act and legislation. Business Performance Agreement
The Business Performance Agreement contains the terms under which the Business Stream applicant will execute their business plan. When a Business Performance Agreement is signed, the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment will provide the Business Stream applicant with a letter of support for a two (2) year temporary work permit. When making an application for a temporary work permit, the applicant must provide the letter of support, their business plan and their signed Business Performance Agreement to the Government of Canada.

If your temporary work permit expires before you have completed your Business Performance Agreement, or before a decision has been made on your Permanent Residency Application, our office can issue you a Work Permit Support Letter. You can use this letter to apply for a new work permit that allows you to continue operating your business.
