Skilled Worker

The application intake period for the Northwest Territories Nominee Program closed at 5pm on March 6, 2025.

On March 11, 2025, following pre-screening, 90 applications will be selected for assessment at random. The Employer, the Nominee Applicant and/or the Authorized Representative will receive an email if their application is selected.

Applications that are not selected will stay in the intake queue until December 12, 2025. If a space becomes available due to application denials or withdrawals, the NTNP will select an application for assessment from the intake queue at random. Selected applications will be notified by email.

The Skilled Worker category helps employers attract qualified individuals if there are shortages of workers for jobs in the NWT that require formal education, specialized training, or both. This category is for occupations that fall under National Occupation Classification (NOC) TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3.

To be eligible, foreign nationals must be able to demonstrate they have the training, experience and education to fulfill the needs of the job description. The skilled worker must:

  • Have one (1) year of full-time experience within the last 10 years in the same or similar occupation that they are being nominated for and have a work permit that expires in 2025; OR
  • Have been working full-time in the NWT for their nominating employer in the same occupation for a minimum of 18 months immediately prior to applying.

There is a minimum language requirement to ensure the foreign national is able to communicate in English or French. This requirement must be met at the time the application is made and proof of testing must be provided.
