On November 16, 2022, the NTNP began using the new National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 system. 

This means that: 

• the NOC 2016 skill type and skill level structure (NOC 0, A, B, C and D) is now replaced with a 6-category system representing the training, education, experience and responsibilities (TEER) needed to work in an occupation
• 4-digit occupation codes are now 5-digit codes
• we’ve updated the eligibility criteria for all programs that use the NOC

The implementation of NOC 2021 won’t impact applications to the NTNP and the new classification system will be used for applications received after November 16, 2022.

Additionally, the NTNP Employer-Driven and Francophone Streams guidelines were updated to remove the Employer Criteria requiring nominating employers to be Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents  of Canada. This will allow foreign-owned businesses operating within the NWT, including businesses owned by Nominees under the NTNP Business Stream, to access ECE’s Employer-Driven and Francophone Streams.
